Phone Interview Tips for freelancers

As a freelancer, I often required to meet with various authorities and experts to reach the heart of a story. The face to face interviews are always ideal, in search of a story but sometimes just is not possible due to constraints of time or geography. Telephone interviews may be equally effective, however, if you plan ahead.
Here there are a few tips that telephone interviews helped me Along the way:
1. Check the interview in advance, but the plan must be prepared to make the first call if the subject has time to talk when you call.
2. Plan most of your questions in advance and provide the material through e-mail if possible. Not always appropriate, especially in the case of a research report, but it is very helpful in maintaining a business or personal profile. This allows your object to prepare for the interview call. You can always ad lib as other issues arise during the conversation.
3. Tell the interviewee you write, what the article is the general principle of the article, and when it is scheduled for publication. Let him that this information can change and, where applicable, you must provide status updates. This is especially useful if your editor to push his History of the April issue the June issue, for example.
4. Record your telephone conversations. Get permission from the interviewee, and to ensure that registration is only for their grades and not shared with another person. Even if you take notes stellar, it is helpful to turn to the initial discussion to clarify issues or to take notes or quotations you missed.
5. Pause and take notes and appointments. You find that your partner is likely to fill the silence, to respond to questions already asked or even provide information that had disregarded.

7. Get permission to follow if you have questions also, and let the interviewee know how to contact you if he or she has to add information or provide documents.
8. Thank you for the respondent in writing. Email is the trend these days, but I prefer to send a thank you note written with my card.
9. Unless your editor application does not provide an advance copy of his article to the interview examined. Some publications allow this, but many do not.
By following these tips, you can be sure of a telephone conversation with success, even the most difficult subjects.
